With both fortitude and impressive style, JOE RAY KELLEY
made the quantum jump, in the Nineteen Eighty's, from drawing weather
maps (a trained and experienced meteorologist), to oil and acrylic
paintings, building on a talent for illustration. In a style of
realism that borrows from both modern and classical masters, Joe
Kelley-a largely self-taught artist-has a deft and subtle understanding
of the interplay of light and medium. His paintings exude a profound
understanding of the interplay of light and subject. His commanding
use of color focuses and enhances the viewers' experience of mood
and intimacy.
