jump, in the Nineteen Eighty's, from drawing weather maps (a trained and
experienced meteorologist), to oil and acrylic painting, building on a
talent for illustration. In a style of realism that borrows from both
modern and classical masters, Joe Kelley-a largely self-taught artist-has
a deft and subtle understanding of the interplay of light and medium.
His paintings exude a profound understanding of the interplay of light
and subject. His commanding use of color focuses and enhances the viewers'
experience of mood and intimacy.
Joe Ray Kelley, a native of Missouri, has been well represented throughout
the mid-west and his work had been accepted and rewarded in many regional,
national and international juried art shows and exhibitions.
For realistic art in landscapes he concentrates on
the ‘weather factor’ (season, clouds, foliage and time of day
or night), which are all factors in the light source involved in the color
and shading of the painting. From the initial planning stage of a painting
to the last brush stroke provides a pleasure in his life like no other.
Joe Kelley also takes assignments for Commissioned Art and his work is
displayed at Exhibitions on national level. Joe's paintings can be found
in corporate and private collections from Galway Bay, Ireland to Monterey
Bay, California.
